José Luis Gutiérrez Román

Director

José Luis holds a Bachelor´s degree in Law from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM), with a Master´s degree in Defense, Promotion and Outreach of Human Rights from the Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México (UACM), with two certificates in Human Rights one from the UACM and the other from the Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CNDH) and the Senado de la Republica. In addition he has completed a certificate program about the Right to Nondiscrimination from the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas at UNAM, and in 2012 a post-graduate degree in Legal Advocacy Strategies from the Universidad de Chile.

In Human Rights, he has received diverse certifications from both nationally and internationally recognized institutions. Among them courses from American University´s Washington College of Law in topics including International Humanitarian Law, Litigation and Activism in Human Rights, Implementation of International Standards of Human Rights Protections, and Human Rights of Women.

Luis Díaz Carmona

Adminstrative Coordinator

Native of Mexico City, Luis Díaz recieved his training in Accounting and Sales from the Colegio de Ciencias y Humanidades (CCH) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Currently he directs the Administrative area of ASILEGAL, where he administers the financial and human resources of the organization, to achieve the fulfillment of organizational goals. He also develops short, medium and long term projections based on financial and material resources.

Rosa María Martínez Montoya

Office Manager

Rosa holds certifications in secretarial and clerical studies from the Escuela Libre para Oficinistas. She has worked with a variety of non-profit organizations in secretarial positions,  including Salud Integral para la Mujer A.C. (SIPAM) and the Red Nacional de Organismos Civiles de Derechos Humanos "Todos los Derechos para Todas y Todos" A.C. She has been the Office Manager at ASILEGAL since 2010.

Virginia Ramos Morales

Accountables

Virginia studied in the Facultad de Contaduría y Administración of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). To obtain her Bachelor´s degree she wrote her final thesis on financial aspects of non-profit organizations titled “Asociaciones Civiles. Aspectos Legales Fiscales y Contables.” Additionally she has taken diverse courses on non-profit organizations from the Centro de Actualización Fiscal (CAEF).

Since 1998 she has been working in the area of accounting through a diverse range of non-profit organizations such as Mujer Zmodem A.C., Servicio Desarrollo y Paz A.C., Salud Integral para la Mujer A.C., Fuga Espacio Alternativo A.C. Since 2006 she has been working in the accounting department of ASILEGAL.

Luciana Contreras Feliciano

Office Assistant

Luciana graduated from High School with an emphasis in Computer Sciences. She has contributed as an office and accounting assistant as well as an administrative assistant in a wide variety of businesses.

She collaborates with the Education Area in methodological design, including through translation and interpretation of materials and teaching methodologies for educational initiatives in the indigenous community of the Mountain region in Gueerero.

Chiara Costanzo

Institutional Development Coordinator

Chiara was born in Consenza, Italy. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Cooperation, Development & Peace from the Facultad de Economía de la Università della Calabria (UNICAL).

Chiara obtained her Master´s in International Human Rights from the Irish Center of Human Rights of the University of Ireland, and is currently a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology and Political Sciences from the same university. In 2010, she was an Assistant of the Programa de Participación Ciudadana del Centro de Incidencia Ambiental (CIAM) of Panama. She also served with the Italian Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea in the Cooperative Program for Development.

Chiara works with ASILEGAL to develop the resources necessary for the execution of organizational projects. Further, she works to strengthen interinstitutional relations with other no-governmental organizations and the state.

Olga Guzmán Vergara

Education Coordinator

She holds a degree in International Relations awarded by the Universidad de las Américas, Puebla (UDLAP) and studied one year at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.

 

She worked as a researcher for the Organización DECA, Equipo Pueblo, A.C. where she analyzed public policies as well as national and international laws related to human rights. She participated to the Mexican Campaign for the Ratification of the Optional Protocol n Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. She joined ASILEGAL in 2012.

Luis Jorge de la Peña

Research and Analysis Coordinator

He graduated in Ethnology at the Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia (ENAH). He pursued additional studies with the Latin-American Studies Program and "México Nación Multicultural" Program (PUMC) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Fromn 2004 to 2006 he was a researcher at the Instituto de Vivienda (INVI). He collaborated also to the Family Integral Development System (DIF), designing social programs for indigenous peoples in Estado de México.

Fernando Hernández

Communications Coordinator

He studied Communication Science at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). At the same time, he was part of the team behind the making of the radio program “Chiapas: Expediente Nacional” by Red de Comunicadores Boca de Polen A.C. that is still on air to date on Radio UNAM. He worked as a facilitator in various workshops on press communication, audio editing, and radio production. He previously worked for the Red Nacional de Organismos Civiles de Derechos Humanos “Todos los Derechos para Todas y Todos”, and joined ASILEGAL in 2013.

David Alexir Ledesma Feregrino

Youth and Sexual Diversity Dep. Coordinator   

One of the youngest members of ASILEGAL, David is a Chemistry student at UNAM. He is a keen writer and a fearless activist for LGBT rights. In 2010, his story "Extrapolación del ser" was published in the anthology "Las cuatro esquinas del universo", edited by the UNAM Astronomy Institute and Faculty of Science. He won the competition "La Ciencia Para Todos" (category: Essay on Astronomy) of the Economic Culture Fund (FCE) with the essay titled "Otras voces, la Rayuela de las sociedades tecnológicas". He was awarded honorable mention at the 10th Concurso de Cuento Histórico de la Universidad Iberoamericana for his story "Requiem por Viridiana".

Sara Emilia Vera López

Legal Department Coordinator               

She holds a degree in Law from Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), Campus Tabasco, and complemented her education with diplomas on Tolerance, religious diversity   and HIV Discrimination promoted by the Comisión Nacional para la Prevención de la Discriminación (Conapred); she also attended several courses in gender studies, environmental justice and the right to a healthy environment, international law, and oral trial litigation techniques. She joined ASILEGAL in 2012.

Jorge de la Peña

Integral Health Dep. Coordinator      

Medical Doctor and Social Psychologist (UNAM), he pursued post-grad studies in Psychiatry, Psychogeriatric, Psychoanalysis, and Health Administration. He is Professor of Social Psychology at UNAM.

He worked as an international consultant on Human Rights for the Instituto Interamericano de Derechos Humanos (IIDH) in San José, Costa Rica; expert in psychology for the Interamerican Commission of Human Rights of the Organization of American States; clinical consultant within the Torture Prevention Programme for Freedom House, Mexico; international consultant for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; and consultant for the United Nations office on Drugs and Crime.
